Issue 642 – Verse of the Week

April 11th – April 17th, 2024

VERSE OF THE WEEK

Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling. – Psalm 2:10-11

Consistent Plans

Each presidential administration, each session of Congress, and new justices in the Supreme Court brings differences in policy, agenda, and priorities. Sometimes, these differences seem broad and bear little resemblance to each other. While the political back and forth of each transfer of power can be disorienting, there is One whose agenda has not changed, whose plans are constant. “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope” (Jeremiah 29:11). The following verse offers guidance, “Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you.” God’s plans and your prayers are somehow connected! As much as any other time in America’s history, now is the time to be in prayer for those in authority so that you might lead “a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way” (1 Timothy 2:2). And, by the way, this next verse in Timothy says, “This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior.” So, raise your voice to the Lord and pray that HIS plans for this nation will be established in the halls of government.
